MONITOR Backup

MONITOR Backup is included in the MONITOR ERP System program group on the Start menu in Windows on the server. In the MONITOR Backup you register and configure work items/tasks for backup, validating or copying of company databases including the databases for the EIM (Electronic Invoice Management) and also "BIS" and possibly "BID" (for settings and data in the MONITOR Business Intelligence).

MONITOR Backup contains a wizard (a guide) which helps you during the configuration. The program is very easy to use and can also automatically create and update backup items such as activities under Scheduled Tasks in the Control Panel in Windows. The program also has an "advanced mode" where you gain access to more settings for a backup work item. In this mode it is also possible to add validation or copying work of databases. You can also run work items from the MONITOR Backup and export/import work as XML-files.

The MONITOR Backup creates backup copies of running databases. The program then creates a new copy of the database. A database consists of the database file Monitor.db and the log file Monitor.log. The log file contains the latest transactions. MONITOR Backup can "truncate" the log file (empty it) during a backup. Then these transactions will be moved to the database file.

MONITOR Backup saves the database copy in a separate directory for each company database which is included in a backup work item. The copy of the log file will get the current date and time in the file name. Copies of database files and log files will, as standard, be placed in a destination directory for the respective company in the path Monwin\Dbbackup on the database server, but it is possible to enter another file path. Destination directories are automatically created in connection with the first run of a backup work item in the MONITOR Backup.

You can select whether you want to log work or not. Event logging of work that has been run can be saved to the Historical Events procedure in the Global Settings in MONITOR and in the Event Viewer under Administrative Tools in the Control Panel in Windows. You can also make settings so that the logging (the log event in question) is sent as an e-mail and as SMS (text message). You can configure whether a work item always should be logged or only when work has failed.

The Monwin\DBBackup directory (and its sub-directories) on the database server is what should be included in the regular file backup in a third party backup program. New company databases that are added in MONITOR will automatically be included in existing backup work.
