Lot sizing rule

A lot sizing rule is used for order suggestions during requirement calculations or as part information. The lot sizing rule determines how large a quantity the order suggestion should have, once a requirement has arisen. The different lot sizing rules available in the system are:

• L (Lot-for-lot) - means that an order suggestion is created for each requirement that creates a shortage. If several requirements that create shortage, arise that during the same day, these requirements are merged to one order suggestion. By activating the settings Linked requirement/supply planning for M-part (Lot-for-lot) and Linked requirement/supply planning for P-part (Lot-for-lot) under the heading Requirements Planning under the Inventory tab in the Settings procedure, you can instead create one order suggestion for each requirement that gives a shortage of M-parts and P-parts.
• F (Fixed quantity) - means that the EOQ field must have been filled in, since that is the quantity that will become the order suggestion when a shortage appears. A fixed quantity will create various period lengths for which the stock balance will cover as regards the existing or future requirements, depending on whether the part has an even consumption or not.
• B (Bucket part) - means that the part has a physical stock balance supervision or monitoring. It is not included in Requirement Calculation or Run Netting, nor in Material Clearance.
• P (Period requirement) - provides an order suggestion that will be sufficient for a period of the same length each time, but that will give a different quantity for each shortage. If the system has been configured to show the period in the date format YYWW, the Order Window and other windows will be displayed in weeks. It would then be appropriate to enter the value in number of weeks x 5, since the working days unit is always entered.

Part Types and Lot Sizing Rules

The different lot sizing rules that are available for a particular part depends on the part type that was selected for the part. The table below shows the available options. The lot sizing rule that is followed by an asterisk (*) is the one that the system automatically selects for each respective part type, either when you register new parts or modify the part type of an existing part.

Grace Period

If the lot sizing rule L, F or P is selected, you can in the field grace per. enter a grace period in number of work days for the part. The setting General grace period (creates time shortage instead of material shortage), under the heading Requirements Planning under the Inventory tab in the Settings procedure, determines generally the grace period for parts with the lot sizing rules L, F and P, if no grace period has been entered.
