Safety Stock/Reorder Point

A combination of the reorder point and safety stock for this part. This is entered in the part's regular unit.

• Safety stock - the safety level for the part's stock balance, which indicates when a requirement emerges. This can be used to compensate this way for any uncertainties in consumption.
• Reorder point - used as the reorder point for parts that are planned against a reorder point from the data balance.

In the Requirement Calculation, Refill List - Purchase and Refill List - Manufacturing procedures, you can select parts for which a shortage / requirement is emerging or has emerged. The terms shortage/requirement indicate that the balance has fallen below the Safety stock / Reorder point.

If you do not enter anything in this field, a shortage / requirement will take place when the balance reaches zero (0). For Requirement Calculations, this means that a shortage/requirement emerges or occurs in the Order Window with the expected arrivals and reservations in chronological order. For the Refill List, a shortage means that the balance for the time being is below the Safety stock / Reorder point.

Comment: You can here split the safety stock and reorder point into two separate fields by using the setting Split Safety Stock and Reorder Point?, under Requirements Planning under the Inventory tab in the Settings procedure. In that case, the Reorder point field appears in a section to the right of the Safety stock field.
