Why Use This Procedure?
Here you can register a change of stock location names for parts, in other words to rename locations. This procedure is useful in case a stock location for a part is changing its stock location name.
There is also a procedure used to change stock locations for several parts at a time. This can be done in the Change Stock Location in List procedure. There you can load a list of several parts and change or rename the stock locations directly in the list.
You can also change locations during certain transactions, if needed, in all the other procedures where you perform arrivals to stock, such as the last operation in the Operation Reporting procedure under Manufacturing, or in the Arrival Reporting under Purchase.
Please Note! The stock location name is saved directly for each row when you tab to the next row or use Enter.
Multiple Stock Locations
A part can have several stock locations. If you use multiple stock locations a separate locations window will appear if you load a part that have multiple stock locations registered. You can use that window to rename all locations for that part. You can also add several new locations.
When using multiple locations, you can also open this window using the Location field for parts that do not have any registered locations.
Another time when this procedure may come in handy, is if you use multiple stock locations and also have configured the setting to always create new locations during quick reporting of arrivals to stock. When you report arrivals, you always name the new locations with consecutive numbers in the following manner: *1001*, *1002*, etc. When the parts are actually manually stored on a location in your warehouse with another name, the person who is performing this can use this procedure to rename the locations per part.
If a part should be physically moved from one location to another, you probably do not need to change the stock location name, but rather you should move the stock balance. For this there is a separate procedure called Move Stock Balance, and if you are using the supplement Warehouse Management there are also the Move Stock Balance Between Warehouses procedure.
