Update Path

By selecting the alternative Paths, in the File menu, a window called Update paths opens. In a table you can change, hide, delete and merge paths in the database. Only the users ADMIN, Administrator equivalent or users who belong to the group Administrator (Both user and group) have access to the Path function. As an extra precaution, the ADMIN password must also be entered when using the Path function.

The physical paths and folder names on the disk will remain unchanged.

The Update Paths Window.

Path

In this column you will see the entire path to the folder registered as document path. Here you can change this path. The path must be a UNC path or a path to a mapped network device as in the sample.

Preferably, no paths should be registered to local units (for example C:) since these normally cannot be accessed by other users in the network.

Explanation

Here you will see an explanation or a name of the document path. Here you can change this explanation.

Type

The value 2 is selected by default in this column. The value can be changed to 1 which means that the path will be hidden from the users. In this case you can also delete the path (see below), if needed.

The Merge Button

By using this button you can merge two paths to one path. This button is activated if you have checked the box on two rows. The uppermost of the paths will then remain. Two control questions will be shown before merging.

Merging paths is only intended for two paths pointing to the same folder! For example when one path contains a UNC path and the other path contains a driver letter, or if the paths have different driver letters. Several paths pointing to the same folder arise if the users, who link the document and at the same time create paths, not only use the UNC path or if they have different drive letters for the path in the Explorer on their computers.

Please Note! The only way to undo a merge of two paths is to recover a backup of the entire MONITOR database. This function must therefore be used with caution!

The Delete Button

By using this button you can delete the selected path if the row has Type 1 and the box has been checked on the row. No control question will appear before the deletion. The deletion is executed by clicking OK in the window. If a path has been deleted by mistake, you reset it by clicking Cancel.

Please Note! The button deletes a path even if it includes linked files! This function must therefore be used with caution!
