The format number is a description in MONITOR of which information should be exported/imported. These formats are pre-determined in the database and resemble the forms used in MONITOR.
The different formats can (in the same way as forms) also be adapted. The format ensures that each import/export will be created in the same way and that the recipient will be able to interpret the information. Which format to be used depends on many things, and is normally determined in consultation with your trainer/consultant from Monitor ERP System, your EDI supplier, etc.
