You are here: Manufacturing > Parts > Update Configuration Group > f(x)

f(x)

This column is only available if you use variables in the Product Configurator.

Quantity Formulas

Under the f(x) button in the column there is a formula window where you can create quantity formulas for the selection alternative based on the variables entered in the procedure. In the Quantity formula column to the right you can see the quantity formula entered in the formula window.

Calculation Formulas and Numerical Values for Variables

For numerical variables you will also find a formula window using the corresponding button f(x). Here you enter a calculation formula for a variable. You can also enter a numerical value in the formula window to make the variable a constant. In the Formula column to the right you can see the calculation formula or numerical value entered in the formula window.

Calculation formulas for variables are used to divide long and complex formulas into sub-formulas and to simplify the management of these. You can for example cut a sub-formula from a long quantity formula and use it as a variable. Then you use the variable instead in the quantity formula. It is also possible to reuse the variable in other formulas. This way, long and complex formulas will be easier to read and more manageable.

For text variables you can also use the formula window under the same button f(x). This can be used to create complex variable texts that consist of other variables. However, no operators, terms and functions exist in the formula window for text variables.

When a calculation formula or constant is entered for a numerical variable, you cannot enter Min value, Max value, Multiple, Default value or Determined by selection group. If a variable text has been entered for a text variable under the same button f(x), then you cannot enter Determined by selection group or Text value.

For further description of how to use formulas, see the Formula window section in the Product Configurator chapter in the Using MONITOR Procedures guide.
