General Information about Update Service Technician

In this procedure you register the service technicians that shall be selectable when the service is planned in the Resource Planning procedure. There you can see which service technicians are available for the job. You can also select a service technician when registering orders in the Register Customer Order procedure.

You register the name and employee number* of the service technician. A check is then made to make sure that the same employee number is not linked to several service technicians. If you delete a service technician a check is made to see if the service technician already is registered on an order. If so, a warning message appears.

At the end of the row you can enter or select a service technician category. If you have activated the setting called Use category management for service technician category?, under Service under the Sales tab in the Settings procedure, you can display category explanation windows with multiple selection options in the Service technician category field. You create selection terms in the Category Management procedure in the Global Settings module. The service technician category setting also determines the amount of help that will be available in the Search Forms/Create tabs for the lists where you can select by service technician category.

If this setting is not activated you can enter service technician categories as additional text. You can then enter a maximum of 15 characters. By using the button next to the category field, you will find instructions of how to enter categories. These instructions are entered in the Categories procedure in the Global Settings module.

Categories can be useful to indicate that we have technicians in a specific district, that they have specific skills or qualifications, etc. The categories will make it easier to select a service technician during the resource planning.

* The employee number must be registered in the Update Employee procedure. For employed service technicians, the employees' calendars are used to calculate the availability. The Update Employee procedure is included in the Service Management even for systems that do not have the Workshop Info module. Then a general schedule applies that is entered in different settings. Read more about this in the section Resource Planning without Workshop Info in the Using MONITOR Procedures.

External Service Technicians

If the service technician is an external partner from another company, the regular subcontractor management is used. The subcontractor shall be registered as a work center in the Update Work Center procedure and also as a supplier in the Update Supplier procedure.
