List Selection

Selection is a temporary table (a type of "Clipboard") that you use to copy a selection of parts, customers, suppliers, orders, tools, employees, and work centers, from lists containing any of these records. You can then reuse the created selection as a selection in other search forms/create tabs and further process the selection made.

It is possible to, for example, copy a range of parts to selection also in "consists of" list types. This means that you, for example, can paste all part numbers in a structure from an optional list.

Selection can be useful in many situations. One way of using it can for example be to use the part selection when performing physical inventory or updating planning parameters. Another application can be to copy a range of sales parts from the sales statistics to lists, in order to calculate forecasts or to update classification terms.

Copy to Selection

In order to copy to selection you use the option Copy nnnn to selection in the Info menu accessed by right-clicking in the column containing part number, customer code, or supplier code, etc. in a list. ("nnnn" in the option refers to any of the records mentioned above for which there is support in the selection.)

You can copy the selected record or all records in the list to the selection. In the example in the image below you copy all parts in the list to selection by choosing the option Copy parts to selection. If you only want to copy the selected part in the list to the selection you should in the example below use the option Copy part [0025-2] to selection.

The Selection Window

When you have copied the records they will be displayed in a table in the Selection window. Here you can see the copied records in a temporary table. It is also possible to open the window manually using the Edit | Selection... alternative in the Window menu.

The Selection window.

The following ten tabs are available in the window: Parts, Customers, Suppliers, Tools, Employees, Customer orders, Purchase orders, Manufacturing orders, Work centers and Service orders. If you have copied records to a selection you will see a table under the tab in question. There you can handle the selection in different ways as seen below:

Control question, Selection.

You do not have to have the Selection window open in order to maintain a selection in the temporary table. A selection will remain and can be reused in all lists (lists that can be selected by part number, customer code or supplier code) until you clear the table in question or until you exit MONITOR.

Activate Selection in Search Forms/Create tabs

In Search Forms/Create tabs where you can select by part number, customer code, supplier code, tool number, employee number, customer order number, purchase order number, manufacturing order number, work center or service order number, there is a button for activating selection . It is located to the far right, next to the To field for the selection field in question.

If you click that button you will activate the selection as a selection term in the current Search Form/Create tab. The selection will then apply as a selection term in the Search Form as long as the button has a green check mark . If you instead right-click on the button then the activated selection will become inverted. The button will then display a red x . This means that all records in the selection will be excluded as selection terms.

The records in an activated or inverted selection will not be displayed in the selection fields.

It is also possible to combine a selection or an inverted selection with manually entered selection terms, if the records match. If you for example select by part number and enter from "100" to "200" in the Create tab and then activate a selection containing the parts "30123", "30124" and "30125" you will get an empty list. If you instead select by for example part number from "100" to "400" in the Create tab and then activate the same selection it will result in a list with only those three parts.

When you print a list or when you use the Preview tab you can see that a selection is activated/inverted as selection term (if Print Search Form has been activated under the Edit menu). This is shown using the symbol in question for the selection button to the right of the affected selection field in the Search Form displayed in the list.
