To start and finish operations in MONITOR there are two work methods, Start/finish at will and Only change. You choose individually which work method that should be used for each operator, using the Start Work Method setting in the Update Employee procedure.
If you use Start/finish at will, the number of jobs that an employee may have active at the same time is unlimited. In the Recording Terminal there are three buttons for work recording:
Start indirect work - opens the Select indirect work code window, where an indirect work can be started.
Start direct work - opens the Start direct work mode.
Finish work - opens the Finish/Partial report work mode.
If you use the Only change setting, you can only have one (1) job active, except during batch recording. The principle is that you have to select a new job before you can finish/interrupt the old one. There are two buttons to select:
Change indirect work - opens the Select indirect work code window, where an indirect work can be started. The Finish/Partial report work is then opened automatically so that the "old" job can be finished.
Change direct work - here, as during change indirect work, a direct work must be started before the "old" one is finished.
Please Note! We have used the same images and procedures for both of the work methods, during start and finish.
The big difference between these methods is how the worked hours are registered. If Start/finish at will is active and, for example, three jobs are active at the same time during one day, the total worked hours will be three times as much as the attendance time. If you use Only change, only one job can be active at a time and the attendance time and worked hours will be equal (with a few exceptions).
During Only change you can have several jobs active at the same time, if it is a so-called Batch recording that can be used for direct work. The condition for this is that the operations must have the timing code Distribute as per pre-calculation, which is entered for each work center in the Update Work Center procedure. The batch recording will distribute the hours among the jobs that are active at the same time, considering the planned time for each operation. A batch of several operations is, in principle, managed as one job and can therefore also be used during the Only change work method.
