Getting Started

Preparations

Before your company can start using an ERP system such as MONITOR, certain measures must be taken. It should be pointed out that it is very important to carefully plan the way you intend to use the system before getting started. This is because certain preparations must be made before you can actually sit down and input your data such as parts, suppliers, customers and so on. Your company may also have to re-design or adapt its own internal routines and procedures.

For those of you who have not worked with MPC (material planning control) and administrative database systems in the past, Monitor ERP System AB can assist you with advice and support on a consultation basis. The transition to MONITOR is a project which usually includes a training phase in connection with the installation and startup, since many questions regarding settings and other setup issues arise at that time and are best dealt with immediately.

Startup Principles

The following chapter will describe certain startup principles, so that you will better understand the priority and order of the startup activities, and understand how the different segments are connected. But you should consider that:

The priority of the startup activities are generally as follows:

  1. Preparations in Global Settings (Choosing settings, setting up user rights, groups, users etc.)
  2. Static Registers with Basic Data (Creating parts, suppliers, customers, work centers, and structures, etc.)
  3. Order Management (Creating calculations, quotes, orders and inquiries etc.)

During startup it is sufficient if you register a "bank" of your most common basic data such as parts, suppliers, customers, structures, etc. It will then be easier to start using calculations, register quotes and orders, etc. The amount of basic data that you need to register in this "bank" during startup will also depend on the kind of business your company is in, and which modules you will be using.

All the chapters in this guide, as well as the description of the measures to be taken in the different MONITOR procedures, appear in the order that they should normally be performed during startup.
