Why Use This Procedure?
This procedure is used to manually load new EDI messages, from import files that have been created by an EDI Bridge. At the same time as the import takes place, EDI messages are also loaded to an export file if such links exist. In the MEDI window you can select which imports and exports that can be made.
The program that is run with this procedure is called "MEDI.EXE" and is an independent program that comes with MONITOR. MEDI takes care of the transfer of EDI messages in an import file that has been created by the EDI Bridge, and is transferred to the database in MONITOR. Inversley, MEDI also handles transfers from the database to an export file for the EDI Bridge. The import/export files are text files. The name and file path of these text files are specified in the special procedure called EDI Links.
Before and after you run MEDI, you can maintain and supervise the export and import of EDI messages to make sure that they are carried out correctly. This is done in the EDI Data procedure.
MEDI can also be run automatically during import/export in the concerned procedure, for example the Import EDI Orders procedure in the Sales module. This should in that case be entered for the link in the EDI Links. It is also possible to run MEDI according to a schedule. This is configured in Windows using the Scheduled Tasks function. Please read more about this under EDI in the Using MONITOR Procedures guide.
It is also important that you remember that the user that is running MEDI from here must have the proper write permissions as well as the user rights to delete files in the specified directories in EDI Links. This also applies if MEDI is run automatically from for example the Import EDI Orders procedure. If MEDI is run following a schedule in the Scheduled Tasks, it is the user account that is running the task that will need to have the corresponding user rights in the directories.
A log from the MEDI runs can be loaded using the Show Medi2.log under EDI in the Procedure menu.
