If you check the box in the Optional column, you can select parts freely from the part register during the configuration.
No selection alternatives (parts) can then be linked to the selection group in the section Selection alternative for selection group. You can instead configure different settings for the selection group such as enter a default part and limitations of the parts that shall be selectable. You can also configure the same settings as the settings configured for the selection alternatives.
