General Information about Time Calculation

Why Use This Procedure?

Time Calculation is used to calculate setup times and unit times for different manufacturing operations. These times are then used as the basis for creating product prices, quote prices, incentive bonuses, loading, etc.

Principles

The Time Calculation can both be run as a separate procedure under the Time Calculation menu in the Manufacturing module, and integrated with the Preparation procedure, If the Time Calculation is integrated with the Preparation the program is loaded by using F4 or the Info menu if you right-click in the fields Setup time or Unit time in the operation rows. If you run the Time Calculation as a separate procedure, you load the part that you want to calculate in the heading row.

If Time Calculation is integrated with Preparation, you can also update existing preparations for parts. The principle is therefore that you should obtain the setup and unit times at the same time as you update the operation list in the Preparation procedure. This occurs when Time Calculation is integrated with Preparation.

In the Time Calculation feature, you can apply both a "detailed preparation" and a "summarized preparation". During summarized preparations you configure incorporated parts as a position to a main part number, please see Input for each position number. Setup and unit times can be calculated per operation number, position and as a total using the Time Calculation feature. When using the integrated Time Calculation, these times are then automatically entered as a total per operation number, when the calculation is saved.

An operation can consist of one or more processes. There is a calculation basis for each process in Time Calculation, please see The calculation basis input. For each calculation basis, you must enter a number of input data and variables.

Read more under Enclosures, that contains information about tolerances and weld joint area, as well as examples of time calculations for turning and milling.

Please note! The calculation of setup and unit times using Time Calculation applies number of specially designed principles in the program. That is why time calculations should only be applied by those users that have undergone a special training session on how to use the procedure.

Time Unit

The time unit used for setup and unit times in Time Calculation is determined by the time unit selected in the setting Time Unit for Setup Time and Unit Time for Operations, under Preparations under the Manufacturing tab in the Settings procedure.

Correction Factors

The Time Calculation users can customize the calculation basis to suit their own conditions or circumstances, by using certain correction factors for the distribution, setup time and unit time. These factors must be entered for each basis that they affect. The correction factors are registered in the Update Correction Factors procedure.
