General Information about Update Services

What are Services?

The part register is the most important and fundamental register in a system such as MONITOR. Aside from the part register, the system contains a service register. This is where you save services (such as fees or remuneration, traveling expenses, alloy costs, etc.), which are not saved in the part register.

An important difference between a part and a service is that a service does not have a stock balance. You can also choose whether a service should update statistics or not during invoicing. The primary information on a service is: service code, name, unit, product group and price. Other information includes standard price, classification, additional name, etc. that can be entered for a service.

The main principle is that only the primary information must be entered on a service in order to use it in some of the fundamental functions of the system, such as order management.

IMPORTANT! You should carefully consider and think through your service code numbering system, and what your service names should look like, before you start creating services.

Services of the type Alloy cost should linked to an alloy code/mark-up in the Alloy Codes / Mark-ups procedure under Tables in the Global Settings module. On customer and purchase orders an extra order row with that service code can then be created, the alloy cost. To make a change of the quantity on the order row to affect the extra service row with alloy cost, the service type "Alloy cost" must be selected for the service code.

Where and How Do I Maintain the Service Register?

You create, modify and delete services in this procedure. The window consists of a heading row as well as two tabs called General and Budget. The tabs contain different information about the service that was created or loaded on the heading row.

All created services can be printed out in different lists. The lists can be printed on a printer or viewed on your screen. When viewed on your screen (Display List), you can also make certain changes in the service register. You can change different things, depending on the list type and the classification selections you have made.

It is handy to modify and maintain the service register directly from lists, for example when you are modifying information for several services at a time; while the update windows are more convenient when you are modifying several things on few services. Basically, everything that can be updated on a service can also be printed and changed in different lists. The list that is used to print and modify the service register is called Service List. You can also copy an existing service by using Save as... under File in the Window menu.

In order to translate the name and additional name of a service, there is a special update window called Translation.

What Does This Window Contain?

The window consists of a heading row, in which you enter the service code, name and type. Each service has some fields that can be updated, and some fields that can only be read. Some information that can be updated or only viewed onscreen can also be accessed via certain buttons in the window.

The fields and buttons that apply to the selected services are structured under two tabs called General and Budget.
