to the right of the field, or by using the shortcut key F3.A Part category is a classification term used for parts. You enter the part categories in certain positions (of the field) for different meanings, using max 15 characters or positions.
When classifying by part category in lists, you can use "Underline" ( _ ) and the percentage sign ( % ) to search for characters in a certain position in the part category. This type of selection can also be made for part codes. The only difference between part codes and part categories are that categories are only used as a selection term in the system, which means that it can never be used to classify parts in standard lists using the part category. However, part categories can be used to sort and filter the data that you have already selected in your list.
Please remember that the term "part category" has not been created to be used as a selection term in as many places as the term "part code". You should therefore only use part categories as a last-resort classification method. For your own Custom Reports, you can create optional applications.
You can update help text for the category field in the Categories procedure in the Global Settings module. This text help information can be viewed by clicking on the button to the right of the field, or by using the shortcut key F3.
Category Management
It is possible to activate category management for different types of categories in the system. In the Category Management procedure in the Global Settings module it is then possible to enter more advanced help texts for categories. There you can divide the category field into different sections, enter a descriptive text for the category components and also create selection lists with valid values for each category component. These will then become selectable in the drop-down which will be displayed in this field.
