Start and Finish Work
The reason for operations to both be started and finished, as opposed to the Operation Reporting procedure in the Manufacturing module, is that the system shall be able to manage more current information. In the Manufacturing Order Info you can only see if an operation is in progress. The reasons to start and finish operations are that you can manage interruption statistics and you can priority plan directly on the screen in the workshop etc.
When the operations are started, you can use three different work methods. The operations can be selected:
- Via report number - work is selected by entering the report number for the operation. This work method is used when the operator gets the operation material together with a work card or a traveler, which contains the operation's report number. Ordering and planning are usually done by using printed work cards or travelers.
- Via order number - work is selected by entering the manufacturing order number, and the operator can then choose between the operations included in the order.
- Via priority plan - work is selected among the registered operations for a certain work center. This priority plan may have been adjusted in the Priority Planning procedure.
You use this work method so that the person responsible for the planning is able to control the priority for operations in the work centers. This means that you do not need printed cards for the actual ordering.
This option allows more delegation of responsibility to the operators, when it comes to work planning.
Until the operation is finished, the following reporting options exist:
- Setup time reporting - the time it takes to collect material, to prepare the machine, to test-drive, etc. before the manufacturing begins. That time can be reported to get separate costs for setup and unit time in the post-calculation.
- Partial work reporting - means that time and quantity for a part of the operation is reported before the operation is finished, for example, at the end of the day.
- Interrupt operation - means that the operator leaves the operation and reports time and quantity if any, where the quantity is less than the rest quantity. The time will then be stopped for the operation, but the operation remains with the remaining quantity as rest.
- Place operation on standby - the same as interrupting but the operation remains at the operator, which makes it easier to re-start. This is used when the operator takes on another job, but knows that the current operation shall be started again as next operation.
- Enter comment - using the button C the operator can enter a comment for the operation.
For direct work it can be mandatory to enter a comment if the consumed time exceeds the planned time by a certain percentage. This is configured with the setting Mandatory comment if consumed time exceeds planned time (in %), under Finish work under the Workshop Info tab in the Settings procedure.
If the comment button is yellow, then it will open when you click on the Execute button.
For indirect work you can also determine if it should be mandatory or not to enter a comment. This is determined per code under the Indirect work tab in the Codes procedure.
- Finish operation - the rest quantity is reported.
