Part Number

This is where you select the part that you want to create or modify. The part number represents the part's identity. If you enter an existing part in this field, the system will load the information for that part from the database. If you enter a new part number, the text "------- New part -------" will appear in the Name field.

You can search using part number or name in the part register using the PopUp feature or F4. There is also an alternative PopUp feature, to search using part number or drawing number, which can be opened with the shortcut key F3.

Please Note! Before you start creating parts, you should think through how you want to number parts in your system. This is because it is often difficult to change the identity of a part that is already included in orders and statistics. Remember that by using well thought-out systematics and not using unnecessarily long part numbers, you will make the system more flexible. A part number can contain both digits and letters, and consist of a total of 16 characters.

By using the Info menu (right-clicking) it is easy to link to the Preparation procedure.

Create Part Number Automatically (with Prefix)

The system can automatically create a part number for new parts from your number series. The part number is created when you leave the Part number field empty and position the cursor on another field. The function is activated by the setting Create part number automatically from number series under Part under the Inventory tab in the Settings procedure. The general number series for part numbers is found in the Number Series procedure.

When you interrupt the updating of a new part after that you have loaded a part number from the number series (e.g. the procedure is closed without saving the new part), the part number will not be available again. When creating a new part again, the next available number will be loaded from the number series A "hole" will be the result in the number series of created parts. To fill such a hole, you can manually enter a "left out" part number when creating new parts.

Via the above setting Create part number automatically from number series you can also select if you want to use a prefix for the part numbers and whether or not it should be mandatory to select a prefix. If you use prefixes, these are registered in the Order Types / Prefix procedure. In that procedure you can decide if you want to create a separate number series per prefix or use only one general number series.
