Why Use This Procedure?
The Monitoring Tasks is a procedure that is included in the supplement called MONITOR Agent.
In the Monitoring Tasks window, you register and edit tasks that are created to monitor different events in MONITOR. The monitoring tasks are managed by a special Agent server that must be installed and activated in the system. The tasks are registered as conditions which are described in SQL-phrases. In order to facilitate the registration, there are a number of pre-defined templates. You can also directly link to this procedure from a number of other procedures in MONITOR.
In this procedure you also decide the time interval between the checks, as well as how and whom should be notified of the result once the condition is fulfilled. The first time the condition is checked is when the task is registered, the entered interval then applies to the following checks.
Any changes made in an active (registered) monitoring task will immediately come into effect in the Agent server when saving.
You can re-use accomplished tasks by changing the status from Historical/Inactive to Registered. In this case, you should edit the condition before changing the status. This is done to prevent that the condition is fulfilled at once when the task is saved and managed by the Agent server.
Creating Monitoring Tasks from Other Procedures
You can create pre-defined tasks via the Info menu from a number of procedures. If the task is created this way, you only need to enter the time interval between the checks, as well as how and to whom you want to notify the result. The MONITOR Agent Results alternative is selected by default under the heading Notify via when a task is created from another procedure. The user who created the task is then selected as the receiver of the result. A control of the condition is made with an interval of 1 hour.

Please note that is only these date formats that is allowed by SQL Anywhere and they are the only ones that can be used in this procedure.
The Agent Server
The system administrators should check the Agent server on a regular basis since this is the only way to find out about any incorrect monitoring tasks. Read more about the Agent server in the MONITOR Supplements chapter in the MONITOR Basics.
