General Information about Shorter Working Hours

You will find a general description of how to manage lists in MONITOR in the chapter Managing Lists in the System under General in the MONITOR Basics guide.

What are Shorter Working Hours?

According to certain labor union agreements, employees are entitled to shorter working hours at different levels, depending on their form of employment. For example, the Metal industry workers agreement allows a daytime fulltime union contract employee entitled to 66 minutes of shorter working hours per work week, as of February of 2001. However, these 66 minutes must be reduced in relation to the employee's absence during that week. The exception is paid absences for certain reasons, such as a leave of absence, compensatory leave for overtime done etc. Please see the applicable union contract or agreement documents for further information.

Shorter working hours can be managed in several different ways. One alternative is that the working hours are actually shortened (reduced). Another alternative is that the hours that each employee is entitled to are calculated on a regular basis and saved as a time balance. These hours can then be taken out as time off work at certain occasions. This procedure is used to manage shorter working hours in the latter manner.

What Does This Procedure Do?

Under the Create tab you can calculate and print how many hours each employee has earned as "shorter working hours" during any given period. The calculated value is based on the value entered in the Shorter working hours field in the Group Settings procedure. You can total this list for each employee, or show detailed information about which days each employee has been entitled to shorter working hours.

After the calculation, the hours can be saved to any given time balance in MONITOR. Since the Shorter working hours field is used in the Group Settings procedure to calculate the hours, you can give different groups of employees different measures of shorter working hours. This also coincides with the labor union agreements, where 2-shift workers are given more hours than employees on a regular daytime schedule.

This procedure can also be used to move hours between different balances. For example, you may want to add the makeup time balance to the flex balance every now and again.

What Update Options Exist for this Procedure?

From this list, you can update the accumulated time balances for employees. You can save shorter working hours to any given time balance, and also move hours from one balance to another.

Can Any Charts Be Displayed?
