General Information about Update Document Path

Why Use This Procedure?

The Update Document Path is a procedure that is included in the supplement MONITOR Document Viewing.

In the Update Document Path window you create, modify or delete file paths to folders, locally or on a file/server. Other procedures that are included in the supplement are the Document Viewer and Document Viewer Exception procedures.

A document path points to a certain folder that is used in order to link external documents (files) that are found in that folder (including sub-folders, if any) to different records in the MONITOR database. Read more about linking files to records in the Document Viewing chapters under Supplements and in the in the Document Viewer chapters under General Functions and methods in the MONITOR Basics guide.

It is possible to change to which file a certain file path points. Select the file path and select the alternative Change path in the Info menu.

You can change the name of a file path. If you double-click on the name of the file path it will open for modification.

You can also see to which records a file is linked (applies only to certain types of records). Select the file and the alternative Where-used in the Info menu.

You can also create document file paths using the following methods: Link Document via the Info Menu and Link Document Using the Drag and Drop Function.

Window Functions

Use the button Delete path to delete a selected file path. However, you can only delete file paths without existing links to any of the files in the file path. A message appears if a file is linked informing you that the path contains linked files and that you must delete all links first.

Select Insert path to insert a new path under Root.

By using the Paths function, in the File menu, you can change, hide, delete and merge paths. The function in available only for the ADMIN user. Read more about the function under the Update Paths section.
